Things to consider when private school is a priority

There are some topics that I just don't discuss in public. I'm so against talking about these topics that I won't even tell you what they are. Whether or not you send your children to private school is one of these topics. Whether or not you should send your child to private school is none of my business. However, the economics of this decision are certainly my business.

To me, it all starts with priorities. And no, I'm not talking about whether or not you think education is a top priority. I'm talking about how you treat your priorities, no matter what your priorities are. "Pete, our number one priority is _____", clients often say to me. Okay, act like it. A priority is a goal that gets preferential treatment. You don't fund your priorities IN SPITE OF your other spending. You are supposed to give up your other spending to fund your priorities. What does this look like?

If private education is a priority for you, then drive a beater (a crappy car). If private education is a priority for you, then have a house payment that is 15% of your take home pay. What ever happened to sacrifice?
